Surprising Shawl Pin

Surprising Shawl Pin

I really love shawls, in any sizes, patterns and colors….

And I always look for something to close the shawl with….

Until today I didn’t find the shawl pin that suits me: a pin that will be cool, chic and a fair price….
When I designed My-triangle-shawl and was looking for a pin I had a brilliant Idea to make one on my own. The pattern for the shawl pin was clear in my mind and immediately I crocheted one, but the problem was to find a pin/stick that will catch the shawl to the pin….

I tried several options and then……

How didn’t we think about it before?

My eyes caught a set of cable knitting needles and I found this ingenious idea….

How about it? Isn’t it the best thing for a shawl pin?

This is how the shawl pin was born….

The pin was designed as part 3 of the mini CAL My Triangle Shawl.

The pattern posted   in my blog   (you can register and get updates by email), and in Ravelry  and  I will also post updates at my Facebook page.

Sharing photos and consultation can be done at my  Facebook group CAL.il, and at CAL-CROCHET ALONG Facebook  group who are hosting the project.

Big thanks to  the awesome team of translators, from the CAL – Crochet A Long Facebook group, for the wonderful work they have done with all the translations.

Materials:

Any chosen yarn and color (stash yarn will do)- I used Medium 4 yarn 100g/205m (224 yards)

Crochet hook – I recommend a hook slightly smaller than the recommended hook – I used 4.5mm hook.

Set of cable knitting needles

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

sl st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

P – Picture

Pattern:

ch15, sl st to first ch to make a loop.

Round 1:

Note: for a cleaner look I work over the end of the yarn too.

Ch1 (doesn’t count as st), 40 sc around the loop, join with sl st to first sc.(40 sc's).

Round 2:

Ch1 (doesn’t count as st), skip first st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st (one Front X st created), (skip next st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st) x 19, join with sl st to first dc. (20 Front X stitches).

Cut the yarn and weave in ends.

And now the surprising part of the shawl pin…

Put the shawl pin on the shawl where you want to close it, take one of the cable knitting needle, insert it into the shawl pin so it’ll take both sides of the shawl and then take it out again towards the shawl pin…..

Did you guess? The cable knitting needle is used as a pin in the shawl pin!!

Cool isn’t it?

Enjoy!!!
